A Really, Really Sucky Day

Let count of ALL of the things that went wrong today...

First, there were the *ahem* numerous traffic laws I broke. No one seems to have gotten my truck or trailer number and turned me in. No cops have tracked me down. I do consider that a plus.

Second, had a goddammed customer who wanted to make sure we got there early, it is a holiday weekend after all, only to not have the goddammed load not ready.

Third, then said customer (I held off on using "goddammed" again, was getting a little to off course) complained because they wanted us to hurry up and tarp. They wanted to go home. I was just ACHING to tell whomever off the 41st time I heard that. But, it seems no one wanted to get close to me...guess my vibes were a little strong, eh?

Fourthly, hubby had to use their stoopid sling thingy, so he won't fall off of the load. You know, you wear a harness and if you go over the side, it stops you with a snap that will probably break your *&%^(% neck.

Fifthly, my friggin' alarm clock is going off and I don't know how to turn it off. Maybe I'll just take the batteries out.

Yeah, that kinda day...

We're Being Paid To Sit, Waiting For The Load

The best of all worlds!!  Being paid to sit on our bum while the customer is paying us to sit tight.

How did this happen, you ask??

Read on!

We picked up a load in MS and hauled tuchie to Vancouver, WA.  We got there yesterday morning, took off the chains (it's a machine), and, then, one of the unloaders noticed the machine didn't have an eye thingy on the underside.  That eye thingy is very important for the safety of the crew when they use it.

So, the owner was having a thrombo (don't blame him one bit) and we sat, waiting for somethig to happen.  The owner was making call and after call and finally someone from a local shop showed up.  They conversed quite a bit.  It was decided we would move it forward, put the old machine on the skateboard (my trailer), that had the eye thingy, and we'd haul it to the local shop for a swap type deal.

We got to the shop, unchained, waited for unloading.  I thought it'd be a couple of hours job and we'd reload and go on our merry way.  The shipper wanted the old machine back, in case I didn't make that clear.  Anywho, a guy came by and I asked him how long would it be...

"Oh, two or three days at least."

WHAT??

So, quite a few more calls went on, most notably between us and our office and the customers' broker.

Turns out, we are to wait for the machine to be fixed, then haul it back to MS.  But, the best part is we are being paid to sit here.  Not as much as if we were moving down the road, but, it's still money.  We can get caught up on sleep and do a load or two of laundry.

I can deal with sitting still but after a while, it will start to weigh on my mind and I won't be happy.  Paycheck or no paycheck.  We'll see how it goes.

If it takes too long, I guess we can get another load somewhere but I'd rather take this one...We shall see, we shall see...

March Of The Mallards!!

Aren't they kyoot!!

I tried to post this before but it wouldn't work. Let's see if this time is a charm.

Anywho, theses duckys' are at the Sapp Bros. truckstop in Sidney, NE. They thought I was an easy mark, y'know, had some food. But I showed them!! Nothing! I have a video of them getting disgusted with me and tottering off! So cute!

Actually, the giraffe isn't real , but, the first time you see it, you'll think so!  The owner also has a real live camel, but didn't see him this time.

I Do Not Get Lost, However, I Do Get Misplaced

Yep, in the past three days, your truly has ended up seriously misplaced.

The first time was right outside Duluth, MN.  There is highway 53 and I-35 that come together right thar, on the south side.  We loaded our rig and coming out of the plant, got turned around and wnet down Hwy 53.

Nope, we think, wrong way.  So I had to cross a bridge into WI, swing around under and come back across.  Then started south on I-35.  Only to figger out 10 miles later, it WAS supposed to be 53!

Backtrack the 10 miles to 53, over the Mississippi River, under the bridge and finally on the correct road.

Then today, we were in the ruralist of rural Mississippi and, after loading, thought we could just go "right over here" to get on the main road (as much as main road you could get there).  Once we got closer, it looked like we wouldn't be able to.

Now, in a lot of these places, you don't want to just keep going, you'd be getting in deeper and deeper!  So, I saw a sawmill and turned in.  Asked directions and yep, I actually was going the right way.  Jus on the other side of the overpass was the turn off.  Great.

So, I made the turn and then hubby started talking about something and I lost focus...and ended up missing the next turn.  Had to go down abit, cut across the median and made my way back.

I gotta say, though, the locals must be used to us truckers going all wacky because when I pulled over or did  cut acroos, they all slowed and waited for me.  Heh...

I'm squared away now, toddling down the road....

Okaaaayyyy...Called For Directions, Operator Can't Give Them...It Gets Better...Read on...

Yeah...the stoopidity of companies AND their people...

I will load in the morning at a place in northern Minnesota.  So's, my dispatch gives me a number to call and get directions.  Simple enough, I can do that.

I called the number but they don't have a direction line.  Called back and went straight to the operator and asked for directions.  Still, pretty damn simple, you'd think.

She tells me she'd have to put my call over to shipping, but, shipping has already gone for the day.  I asked HER for directions and she actually said she can't give out directions, only shipping can!  ....and of course, are gone for the day....

Never in all my born days have I had anyone refuse to tell me where they are located!!

To top it off, the broker, on my previous call, told me to go on to the shippers, be there first thing in the morning.  Yeah, right.  Well, actually, even if I knew where to go, I'm not going to park where there isn't a bathroom nor some place to eat.  But, the absurdity of not giving out directions.  Somehow this strikes me as stoopid, dense, dumb, i don't even have enough words off the top of my head.  A little gobsmacked!!

Chalk this up to the joys of trucking!!

-13 Degrees!!

It was so cold at the rest area, this morn, I didn't even get out of my warm truck to use the restroom.

THAT'S how cold it was!!  While driving, I thought I'd have to put my jacket on!  The windows were icing up even though the heat was on them!

THAT is cold!!

Montana. Gorgeous, as always.

This state is one huge palette of color!

Vistas that seem to go on and on, and on some more.

Blue skies that are perfectly blue.  After all, it is "Big Sky Country".  Sort of a bluer robins' egg blue.

Cloud formations over the mountains that evoke all sorts of shapes, for the artsy minded.

If I didn't live in OR, I'd live in Montana.  Actually, I like eastern Montana the best.  I love the western lifestyle and the ruggedness that goes hand in hand with it.  Still, you never have to look far to see the beauty of Montana!

....or I goofed it up.

Anayway, let me try this again, to post the pic...hang on...

An Honest To Goodness Old West Town, Shaniko, OR.

I don't remember all the particulars, but, this town was a real going concern in the middle 1800's.  Cow town deluxe.  Now, there are probably a whopping 100 people who live here, fulltime.

See the whitish building on the left side of the street/road?  Well, that is an old hotel.  I don't know if it's still up and running but when hubby and I were engaged, we talked to the managers about getting married there.

Anywho, after looking around, there may be closer to 50 full time residents.  I can truthfully say the winter here is a mutha of winters!!  Nothing to stop the wind and snow!!  Plunging temps but you have to be tough and no whining or complaining!

The Santa Ana Winds Are Blowing Us All Over The Place

I wish I had gotten a photo last evening, but, the winds were so high in central CA the air was solid dust!  Even though we are flatbed, the wind slapped us around for a good bit.

I heard this morning the winds are the worst in years plus they got up to 85+ mph!  It was worse in Fonatan and Ontario, CA, which we left yesterday morning.

Wow.  Usually you don't see this types of wind unless you're in West Texas or the mid Plains.

It was something else, alright!

WhiskeyTangoHelo!!! $4.19!!

This is in Lodi, CA.  Can you believe??

How in the blue blazes does that clown in the White House expect trucking to keep going??

Honestly, the powers that be NEED to get out of their GD ivory towers and see how real business works.

It ain't a-gonna work if we truckers get priced right out...or have to raise our rates, which all the customers will complain, just adding to my stress.  I don't "do" customer complaints too well.  So, whenever someone complain, I'm not sympathetic.  However, in this case, I AM sympathetic to the customer.

I'm also worried that maybe, just maybe, my company may feel the need to do without us.  That would be really bad for my  bottomline.

So, somehow the joker in the WH needs to be voted out and we need a businessman (or woman) to run this country.

A Program To Help Drivers....

I got this message in my comments and thought I'd repost it here.  I haven't/don't have time to thoroughly check it out but it does sound genuine. I have less than an hour of 'net time.  Check out the website contained herein.  As always, be careful when you enter something like this.  I'm not endorsing, just passing along the information.

*Hi, Lost Adventure Lady. I came across your blog on Layover.com. Anyway, I wanted to see if you come across many truckers who are off the road for one reason or another - job loss, fuel rates, etc. I ask because the Back on the Road program is taking nominations to put a deserving trucker who has fallen on difficult times, back on the road with a new truck, job and a number of other prizes. Here’s more info about the program: http://www.arrowtruck.com/backontheroad/ This week is the last week to submit a story to be considered for the prize, which will be announced at the Mid-America Trucking Show in March. If you know anyone who may be interested in this program, please let them know. Best to you!*

These Ads Are Driving Me Nuts

I'll change the ads as soon as I can.  I thought I'd put a few SMALL ads on this page, maybe make a few cents or two, but, crikey!  The ads take up a lot of room and really distract, don't they??

I tried to change the layout but for some reason, it's not working right now.  I'll change it up as soon as I can, get it back to comfortable and normal.

Sorry about the 'loudness'.

Pay It Forward, Folks!!

We just got through eating in a TA restaurant in Coachella.  There was another driver who was having trouble getting paid from his company.  I'd mention the company name but, I don't want to get sued if the info is false (I doubt it) it is a big name company.

Anywho, he is on his way home to park the truck at their terminal and has another job lined up with another big name company, who I hear is pretty decent to their drivers.

Ok, back to my story...this driver didn't have enough money to eat, had only coffee sitting in front of him.  A little too loudly, I asked if we could buy him dinner.  He adamantly refused!  I sort of pushed it a bit, a little quieter this time.  I said I wasn't trying to embarass him but we'd do it.  No way, Jose, was his response.

What can you do??  I couldn't force him to take the dinner.  However, once I got out to our rig, it sort of hit me...oh, duh, I should have paid on the QT and slunk away in the night.  I asked hubby to go back inside and pay, but, good guy that he is, he tried to do what I was thinking but the guy had already gone to his truck or whereever.

The moral of this story is to help out your fellow man, especially in these tough times!!  Some, or most, drivers are proud and won't hear of you helping them outright.  So, my lesson was to tone it down and JUST. DO. IT.

I Don't Mind Too Good, Sometimes

Yeah, I did it.  I parked where I'm not supposed to be.

My bad.  Heh....

*my reasoning is they should have more up close tot ehstore type parking, so I don't have to walk*

Stoopid, Feckin' Nimrods

I'm tellling the world.  I cannot deal with idiots...of whom I've had the dubious pleasure this fine morning.

We unloaded at a place where the receiving department guy was so soft spoken, I could barely hear him.  He was a nice guy in real life, though.  But, after unloading, I drove around the building only to find myself boxed in.

I know it's hard to see but at the end of the driveway, above, there is a big gate going out to the street.  Here's where it gets good....

A man was moving some lumber and BEFORE I turned down this narrow way, I stopped to ask if I could get through.  Oh, sure, he says, waving me on.

Ummm, not when I get to the gate.  It's tighter than a drum.  No way to get out.

So, I backed out.  The above picture is when I'm backing out.  Yes, I did stop to take the pic, which only annoyed my hubby that much more.

I was gonna give that stoopid man a piece of my mind but, after I'd turned my rig around, *strangely*, he was nowhere to be seen...

Gah!!

Speedco, Save $40!!

We get our pm's done here.  They are fast and are easy to get our rig into.

Anywho, just yesterday, we had a pm done and the total bill was $277 and change.  We had a few things tightened up and tires checked, the drill.

When we got our bill, there was a $40 coupon for the next time we get a pm.  A nice bonus, I should think!

Speedco's are all over the place, so, that's not a problem.  We like like it because they do live up to their name, plus, do everything right the first time!

Yet Another Bloggy App To Try

I had to delete the last app for blogging, now trying this one.  Seriously, this is getting old and bad.

I might have to learn HOW to make my own app!!

Now, THAT is an idea, isn't it??  Then I wouldn't have to put up with the vagaries of apps.

Hmmmm, quiet please....I'm thinking!!   *wheels turning in my head...*

Pilot Truck Stop Has. A Deal

*I saw this on our fuel receipt, hope I have it right*

Anyway, if you buy 1100 gallons of fuel by Dec. 1, Pilot will put $10 on your fuel card. Not the Comdata one, the Pilot card.

I'm probably going to miss out because we took off part of November, but, hey, this seems like a good idea to me!!

Had A Fabulous Thanksgiving!!

Hubby and I are the most blessed and grateful people around. Life is really good.

We didn't think we were going to be home but things worked out, we were. The big problem, there wasn't anything for Thanksgiving in the cupboard! After loading our rig last night, we swung by the local grocery store (they are used to big rigs showing up in the parking lot) and grabbed some items.

Sliced turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce, green beans, sweet 'taters, biscuits and, the coup d'gras, my famous potato salad. Had coffee and Pepsi too.

Anyway, we are incredibly grateful for our lives. Blessed, very blessed, it's awesome.

Anyway, now going to kick back with a little rum and Sierra Mist and enjoy the rest of thevening!

Wow. Such A Miserable Person!!

Honestly, this unloader-guy was flat out a snot. Even the other man, who was helping, said the first guy was a pain.

Y'know, the Bible says a kind word turns away wrath, and, while that's true, this guy was so hateful that I decided not to be nice and give him the benefit of the doubt, to make his day perhaps a bit nicer. (Run on sentence deluxe, there)

He deserves every second of hatefulness that is in his life. He will reap what he sows too. Life is so much better when you treat others with kindness and a little respect!

I thought about having a bit of fun with him, AFTER my delivery papers were signed, but, one, I need my job and two, I don't think it would have been THAT much fun due to his miserableness.

Thankfully, crabby people such as he, I only have to interact with them for a few minutes, while he has to be with himself for life. He got the short end of the stick on that one!!

Stuck In A Motel Room

We picked up this load going to a government plant.  Now, we are co-drivers and do everything together.

This place, wow, will only let one driver in and no doggie-woggies.

Last night we got a motel room for *gasp* $84!  It is the most utilitarian motel room I think I've ever seen!  We have a whopping two towels that have seen better days, no washcloth and a puny hand towel.  Heh....  There is a bar of soap, at least.

The TV remote is, I'm sure, a petri dish of unimaginable things!  Wiped that puppy off as best I could.  The bed sheets LOOK to be clean.  The pillow cases are super wrinkled, like the maids never got around to folding them, just took them straight from the dryer....after they'd been left in too long and wrinkled.

Well, at least they let us have the dogs and it's the best we can do with what we have.

The load must get there!!  We are troopers and will do the deed!

Hunh...Driving An 18 Speed Is Way Different Than 13 Speed...

Who knew??

I sorta assumed that I could ignore the half gears in the low range and drive like I ustacould.

Not so. Those pesky low range half gears are there for a reason and it's best if you use 'em.

Kind of a pain because of all the shifting goin' on but makes for a nicer ride, which is soooo much better on my old-ish bones.

I have gotten lost a few times, totally forgotten which gear, high or low range, clutch or not, tach reading...whatev. so, a little more practice and I'll be back as a real trucker. Probably still complaining, but, there you have it.

Got A Different Power Unit

Our KW is still in the shop. Bah! Anywho, another driver quit midway through his load and we agreed to deliver it for the company. His truck is a Peterbilt, 18 speed. I don't know what size/kind of motor, but it's a big 'un. No other way to have it!

While we loff our KW, this PB is about twice the size in the sleeper and it's wonderful!! So nice to have room for our stuff and spraddle out in comfort.

The downside, you ask?? Well, the other driver was an absolute pig and it's nasty inside the cab. I disinfected everything and feel the need to do so again!! How in hell do people live in ick??? He sure did!!

Now, the funny part is the sideboxes on the trailer are immaculate! Everything is perfectly fitted and just SO. Why couldn't he do that with the power unit??

This poor rig needs a wash from Blue Beacon. They are gonna have their work cut out for them! Earn every cent we'd pay them!

At any rate, we have a bigger truck and are so much more happier. Yay!!

See These Guys?? Actually, One's A Girl...

Anywho, since this puppy is going to work (yahoo!), here's da story 'bout the pic.

I saw these people in Chemult, OR a few days before I took this pic in Fernley, NV. Sitting right outside the Pilot truckstop. When I saw them in Chemult, there were in the rest area just south of town. First, one day they were on the northbound side and the next day, they were on the southbound side.

They have a dog and who can resist kicking them a few bucks for gas and dog food??

Me, that's who.

I don't have a problem helping someone who is truly broken down but not when they are playing a game with soft hearted Good Samaritans. Usually, I will buy a back of dog food or offer to buy them a sandwich, but, no way in hell am I giving them my hard earned money. You don't know where the money really goes.

So, I've become a hard hearted *itch and will give tangible items. Then it's up to them to find their way home or to other help. To play the game the above folks are doing, that's just not right. Well, they probably make more money than I!!

Just thought it was strange to see them "down the road". Heh...

Truck Needed An Engine Overhaul...So....

I'll do the best I can in reporting truck stories as I find them.  We are at home, taking it easy.  Kind of nice, too.  No money coming in, but, that's what saving for a rainy day is all about, eh??

The lesson of this story is...always be prepared.  Truck can break down any moment and if you haven't prepared in advance, you could be up a creek.  (Do I really have to tell ANYone this??)

From each paycheck, put back at least 10% into some sort of savings account or even under the mattress.  It adds up quickly!  Then when the ineveitable (sp?) happens, you can go on with your life and not risk losing any or even a little part of it.

Honestly, that 10%, you won't notice it's not being used in everyday trucking.  Just do it.  I'm sure glad we did.

I've enjoyed the time at home but I'm starting to want to hunt the road again.  I like being at home and doing all the homemaker stuff but I'm a truckdriver at heart.  I really can't wait till our girl is fixed and we are tearing it up again.  Sorry to be mushy but we do have an affinity for our truck.  That's why we take such good care of her but poot happens and she must be fixed.

Nah, on second thought, I'm not sorry to be mushy over an inanimate thing, I loff my truck!!

See you guys down the road!!

Well, you'd be right!

I saw her the other day at Pilot on Rd. 8, just north of Sacramento, in the godforsaken state of California. I have seen her before in Washington state, tried to get a picture but couldn't.

Anywho, she has roses all over her tractor and trailer.

It's not every day that you see something different from the blacks and dark grey tarps. Glad to see another female flatbedder out there. The fat she can tarp is a big winner with me. I don't like heights so I'll bask in her reflected glory of a pink tarped load(s).

Maybe someday I'll get to talk to her and will report it here!!

Honestly, these Occupy people are getting so silly!!

I had to deliver a partial load in Marin County day before yesterday.  Now, if you don't know, Marin County, CA, is a swanky, rich part of the world.  I'm thinking it's pretty liberal, but I won't hold that against them!

Anywho, to get to my drop, I had to drive through some of the windiest roads you could imagine.  Then, right by the Marina, there is this one lone guy, holding a sign about "Occupy Marin County".

I mean it, I snorked out loud and had a laugh.  I looked straight at him.  He looked at me but not straight on.  Actually, I thought he was kind of embarrassed to be there.  I mean, ONE person??  Boy, howdy, that is some movement, eh??

The other drivers were ignoring him, too.  I guess he gave up and went home to his sushi and trust fund because when I came back through, he was gone.  Nary a sign (pun intended) of him!!

FFE Fires Dallas Truck Drivers....

*I may not have all the correct info, please double check my info.*

I saw this on my FB page a day or so ago.  FFE fired all their Dallas drivers and someone was trying to help them by finding rides home.  People really stepped up to the plate and offered rides.

Anyway, if I remember right, FFE is having some sort of problem and this is the result.  Someone posted on FB that she hoped they weren't going to do an Arrow thing and flat fold up shop, leaving everyone high and dry.

Times are getting tough and trucking companies have to do what they have to do to stay in business.  But it seems rather mean and petty for the manager (I think) to walk about the yard and handing out pink slips to whomever.  They certainly could have handled THAT better.  Shame on FFE for doing it this way.

Anyway, if I hear/read anything else, I'll post here.

Hubby Thought I'd Been Kidnapped!! (He's So Wonderful!)

We were in Ontario, CA, last night and parked at the TA. Normally, we park on a certain row. It's easy to get into and out of certain spots. But, yesterday, we had to park one row over.

No problem, you'd think...

Well, after eating in the restaurant (whose food wasn't up to par for some reason, but that's another story), I went on out to the truck, while hubby stayed behind to yap with other drivers.

So...I'm out in the truck...and no hubby....and no hubby...and no hubby. I'm getting pretty antsy.

I had already changed into my jammies but started to change back, was going to look for my beloved hubby!!

Right about that time, I saw his black western hat (yes, black felt hat, even in summer...) come around the hood of my truck. He got in and told me his story!

He had forgotten we'd parked a row over and had been walking around, looking for the rig. Then he started to get the feeling I'd been kidnapped and then he really couldn't think straight!! It does happen, kidnappings, I mean. There have been cases of female drivers being forced to go with an abductor and that is what hubby was thinking!!

Finally, he walked around the edge of the row and saw our rig! Whew!! He was soooo relieved!! Me, too!

After all the tension, we had a tentative laugh about it. It's funny but not. It could have been something bad, but wasn't.

It really made us feel how much we care for each other and what would life be like without the other?? I don't even want to think about it. Just very scary but ended well.

Next time I'll pin a transponder to his shirt!!

Kenworth Couldn't Fix Our A/C, So Where DID We Get it Fixed??

We trotted ourselves right down to El Paso, TX, and a couple of really nice Mexican guys fixed it 'on the spot'.
It only took them a little over an hour to take the line off, repair it and put it back on. No leaks either. Then they charged us a whole whopping $290 for the whole thing.

Now, contrast this with the Amarillo KW dealer who took two whole days, charged close to $1000 and still had leaks and couldn't make it work. On top of that, they had to give us a new compressor thingy because their guy put too much coolant in it and brned the d*mn thing to pieces. Then, we got an sttitude from them and they wanted us to stay over an extra day to "fix" it again.

Ummm, no.

So, finally found these guys, here in El Paso, and they were so nice and grateful for the business.

Now, that's the way it ought to be!!

The Loader Who Drop Your Load

Well, part of it anyway.

First off, the number we were given to call our customer, it's disconnected. Second, the number on MapQuest, no one answers. Third, trying to find this feckin' place was a real chore...and that was with using MapQuest.

Then, to top the cake off, right in the middle of loading, some suit from the office comes in and tells the loaders they are expected at a mandatory meeting. Off'n they go, winging away. So, we sat here and sat some more.

Finally, they get back here and are taking their sweet time loading, and dropping, the load. Hubby stood there and watched them pick it up. We really aren't in a mood to help at the moment...

Occupy Ft. Collins!!

OMG, just drove by a motley crew of Occupiers. Heh, they didn't THAT happy as it's 56 degrees out. *snork*

The light was kinda low, guess someone forgot the incense and candles. Then, their signs were sorta pathetic. I'm guessing their check didn't come in and they had to make do with what they had. Yeah, they had to be resourceful, maybe??

Hehehe....I'm not sorry for typing this, but good "ord, they did look pathetic and bedraggled.

Guess those trust fund babies didn't quite plan it this way...*snork* (again).

Points For The Internet....

Yep, I'm still in the shop, waiting on my adorable KW to get well.  So's, I'm sitting here and got to talking with the guy next to me about trucking.  We were/have been talking about the internet and how to use it.

Didja know, you can go to TA truckstops and use your points off your loyalty for free 'net??  Instead of forking out $1.99 or $4.95 for 24 hours, use the points instead.  It's a penny a point.  So, for $1.99, you'd use 199 points (duh...).

I don't think Flying J or Pilot do this.  I'm not sure about Love's either.  Ustabe, Flying J had problems with connecting and I am not really a fan of their 'net for that reason.  Seems that TA/Petro almost always have good signals.  Only a handful of times have I felt gypped by not getting good reception.

Anywho, using your points is a way to save a bit of dough and points are free anyway!

Here's The Actual Video, I Think!!

Let's see if this works any better!!

My Video Of The Goldfield Hotel, Goldfield, NV

http://youtu.be/soPc0Om2MzU

I took this vid a little while ago of the famous old hotel, using my camera phone.  It's not the best in the world for videoing but you can see what the place looks like.

This hotel has been used in the Ghost Adventures TV show.  It's plenty spooky!!

Anywho, I hope you enjoy it!!

(I'm still learning about putting vids on this blog...)

Back In The Shop With A/C Problems

See, this is the problem with trucking.  Everything goes great for a while and then, BAM!, everything goes to hell in a handbasket.

We were here on Monday, went on to Ft. Worth, unloaded, reloaded and got back here to Amarillo.

Then hubby noticed a leak while we were getting a PM on the truck.  The rebuilt a/c line was leaking.  So, we drove back to KW.

Found out, it's under warranty.  That's good.  Found out since KW didn't rebuild the line, we can't go on and let another KW deal with it in the future.  It has to be HERE.

So, here we sit.

Then, hubby came in a little bit ago and said they put too much coolant-stuff in the compressor and it blew up.  Hubby and the KW manager had a little exchange of words....

I don't know where we are on this.  We can go for months and nothing happens and then it all happens at once.  So freakin' disappointing, y'know??

Really asking myself if I want to be a truck driver right 'bout now....

Got The A/C Fixed, Only To Have This To Drive Into....

We about died of heat over the weekend. Then spent all of Monday with my truck in the shop. The a/c works fine now.

Then I get up this morn to find cloud cover and a 58 degree temp.

Can't win 'em all....

The A/C Went Out In Our Big Rig

It is hot!!  Duhhhh....  Anyway, yesterday morning our a/c decided to quit being cool and I made a faster than usual run to Las Vegas, NV.  KW said they were closed on Saturday (the service dept.) and to call up Peterbilt.

Okie dokie, I called, they said to come on it, they could probably fix it.

We sat for three hours only to find out, they didn't have the part to fix it!!  GAHHHH!!!!

The lines that run to the a/c compressor had holes in them.  You'd think a dealership would carry everything for their product, but, apparantly, KW does not.  Peterbilt charged us a nice nickel and we were on our way.  Still hotter'n blue blazes plue being mad about not fixing the damn thing.  I mean, it was Las Vegas, and we didn't even get to town.

So, then we're heading out towards the dam and there is a sign that during the day, M-S, you have to go down to Searchlight and then on farther south to I-can't-remember-what-the-road-number-is-that-goes-down-the-long-steep-hill-to-Arizona-and-up-the-other-side-to-Golden Valley and then on to Kingman.

Did I mention it was hot??  Well, it was even hotter down on the border, close to Laughlin.

Did I mention we are at 79K+ pounds??  It was like a long, hard slog, inching down the hill and then back up the other side.

Finally, I pulled into the Peptro, east of Kingman, to fuel.  Just taking a shot, I asked if the shop could fix our lines.  Nope, have to have the official version for them.  So, we went on.

Actually, once we got past the long hill that leads out of Kingman, on towards Flagstaff, it wasn't that bad, other than having the windows opened....blowing our hair all over and louder than a KISS concert.

I started out at Sky City this morning, it wasn't half bad.  Then we got to Moriarty and I (stupidly) thought I'd give it another shot that the TA shop could fix it.  Nope (betcha guess that one).  What was even worse, the mechanic there gave me a small lecture about KW products...all the stuff I know from the OTHER shops.  I don't know, just irritated the bejeezus outta me.  I was a bit miffed.

Anywho, we finally got to Santa Rosa because we saw a sign that said truck repair of all kinds.  Yeah, right...but we gave it a shot.  Nope, they couldn't fix it either.  Now, it's 90 degrees in the truck.  I'm getting really cranky.  Hubby called our boss and told him the whole situ, it went over like a lead balloon.

From what I understand, the whole kit and caboodle is gonna run about $1100.  That's American dollars, folks.  So, our bestestbossinthewholeworld is not a happy camper.

I called ahead to Amarillo KW and got the answering service.  I asked if someone could check to find out if they had the parts.  Well, it's a $50 call out for the guy to check.  Scratch that.  So, I then called Wichita Falls and got a nice guy.  They can't fix it, HOWEVER, they can repair the g-damn thing!!!  YAY!!!!  It might take all of tomorrow but it will get fixed, so we think.

Tonight??  I'm sitting in a motel room close to the Pilot in Amarillo.  I'm cool, calm and collected.  The company said to get a a room and I paid the pet fee for my fur baby doggies.

So, if all goes well manana, we will be cool bananas in our adorable KW.  If it were just a bit more autumn, we wouldn't sweat it but we're heading to Ft. Worth and I gotta have my coolness.

Everyone, cross your fingers for us tomorrow that it gets fixed somewhere along the way!!

Drive safe!!

This Is What You Get When You Go To A Union Shop

I don't know if you can see very well but we're sitting at a customers, who I'm sure is union. It took 15 minutes to load this load and, if you can see, it'll take forever to unload. Everyone seems like they are a bigshot and want you to pay attention to THEM.

When there are too many chiefs and not enough indians, you know you have problems.

So far, we've been here 45 minutes and th e farthest we've gotten is moving several times and then sitting.

I give it at least another 45 minutes or so before the unload is complete.

Update, just noticed this...we have pink rope attached to our trailer and then ran out to pylons. We are roped off. Probably for everyone's "safety", y'now.

Geez...and people wonder why the US isn't leading anymore.

Took Video Of Pickup That Was Deliberately Blocking Us

Hubby was driving and had passed this one pickup only to have the pickup speed up and block him from coming back over.

Then the pickup let us over then sped up to pass. It hung right about midway of our trailer with traffic backing up behind it.

Hubby came up behind another rig and had to slow. The pickup finally did pass. The scary thing was while it was in the hammer lane, it was weaving and going over the yellow line!! Clearly, the driver didn't need to be out on the interstate in this condition!!

Finally it got past and slowed down!! Hubby went to pass this time and I took video of the games this guy/gal were playing. I made sure the driver saw me videoing too. After that, they slowed down immediately and let hubby move over. They didn't try to block him either.

Didn't that fool realize HOW feckin' dangerous playing those games wit a big rig is?? Obviously not!!

Well, if I can get the video to upload properly, I'll post it here.

Wow. Fools on the road...who needs 'em??

Juat Got PULLED into A Weigh Station

Swear to God, the female DOT officer looks like one of those women who's probably never been on a date. Hair is pulled back into a bun, wirerim glasses, no makeup, sour look and dressed like an old schoolmarm.

Hubby has to deal with her, thank goodness, but, honestly, this woman looks like she's out to punish the world for her shortcomings.

Wow. Hope hubby can charm her...

It Has Been A Trying Day...

After the Labor Day weekend, we thought it would be all sunny and roses today.

Wrong. We are partially loaded and am sitting at a truckstop. A brake cam bracket broke (because of all the feckin' rough roads in this third world state of Cali) and rubbed a hole in the air line.

So, we whipped into TA and the shop said to park, drop our trailer, they would call us. We sat her for a coupld of hours, they called. I bob-tailed up to the shop, only to find frickin' out...they don't DO this kind of repair. *sigh*

So, called KW and we have to be there at 7am, with bells on. We hooked up the trailer and here we sit.

I knew it wouldn't go very smoothly. This is California after all. &*%^$%^ roads...

Just Paid $5.39 For A Sandwich At TA. Never Again!!

The backstory first...we got loaded and then stopped in at the TA in Troutdale. Had to have my daily Pepsi and hubby needed his Kona Coffee.

Now, the story (and gripe)....I grabbed a couple of the fancy sandwiches out o9f the case. Usually, in most places, they are priced something lik 2/$5.00. Grabbed some dark chocolate to boot, headed to the checkout.

My total came to a bit over $16. Really, I didn't think much of it, so used to high prices in 'stops.

Then, I got to thinking about it and dug out the receipt, which had found the trash. Looked up the prices....really, I shouldn't have...

"$5.39 for a SANDWICH!!"

I mean, by its' lonesome. No chips or pickles, no nuthin'. All by itself.

Let me make this clear, from now on, no way in hell will I buy another sandwich from TA for this much money.

...and then the 'stops wonder why we go to Wmart and similar to buy our food.

So. Totally. Annoyed.

Also, I thought of a Facebook page for this blog too.  My personal blog has too much personal things on it, so, a LAIT FB page would be perfect.

It Helps To Turn Off Heater Hose When You Need A/C Desperately

Here's how this went down...we are on a strict regime with our adorable KW. No more than 12,000 miles between oil changes.

So, everyone know, I'm sure, how feckin' hot it's been this summer. Our A/C hasn't been keeping up one whit. We thought it was just THAT hot, know what I mean?

So's we are in Rapid City and took her to the Boss Shop. After doing his stuff under the hood, the guy came up to me and said we'd be a WHOLE lot cooler now, now that he'd turned off the heater hose thingy.

Well, duh, no wonder! It's almost like night 'n day with the cool. Almost freezing me out right this very minute!

There is a lesson to be learned in here sum'eres. I'm sure there is....

Hauling Railroad Intact Track...Go By Truck, Won't Get Lost!!

We hauled this for a major railroad line. That is four sections of 40-ft. sections of ties and track.

Hubby asked the shipper why they didn't haul their own product and the guy responded that truck was better. Why, you may ask? Well, we can get it to the destination lots faster plus we won't lose it for a month!!

Yup, the shipper actually said if the RR hauls it, it's not a priority (??) And their trailer will get put somewhere and it'd be a month minimum before it would be found.

Now, to my mind, if there were ever a reason to keep us truckers on the road, this is it. We're faster plus, we don't lose whole trailers, with product, for a month.

Yup, the country needs us truckers....

Good call!! Oh, yeah, we need those gyms! It has been way too hot to get out to walk and come winter, well, too cold and slippery. Another thing, I was mugged several years back in a parking lot so I have a fear of walking around by myself.

So, in my book, this is a good thing. I'll carry my disinfectant and spray anything I touch too. Kinda a germaphobic. Nothing new for me in this regard.

Inverter Went On Fritz, NO Coffee!! Noooooo!!

Yep, just about the worst thing that could happen to a trucker is to lose the coffee machine. Since the coffee maker is powered by the inverter (besides powering the micro, my laptop, etc.), it is an absolute catastrophe when the sucker goes south.

Alas, inverters only last a year and almost to the day, it lost its' mojo. *sigh*

We stopped in at Petro but they wanted a king's ransom for it, even using out points. So, we went on. Then we stopped at Mittens Truckstop and found the same one for $50 less!! Yahooo!!

Now, hubby has to put the thing in. We bought coffee this AM that was supposed to be Kona, but I'm the Queen of England if that was Kona. Wasn't a nice thing to do to us truckers, BTW.

Anywho, soonest we'll have coofee brewing in the cab!! Soooo glad!!

While I'm Thinking About This....

For some reason, I can't seem to log in to write posts from my phone.  I have Blogger-droid on there and I can't get it to work right now.  Maybe the owners are doing an upgrade or something but I have to wait till I get on my laptop to write a new post.

I'll keep trying and hopefully, it will work itself out.  If not, my posts may be a leeeetle bit farther apart.

I'll do my best!!

Got My Bell Rung Today, Big Time

THIS IS IMPORTANT!!

We had a load of shingles to pick up, tarp and then on to the customer in Kansas.  I drove in and parked.  The forklift guy loaded all and hubby and I started to strap it all down.

Welp, hubby usually yells when he's throwing the strap over but for some reason, he didn't this time.  He threw the strap over...where is smacked me in the jaw, neck and upper shoulder!!  I mean, I saw STARS!!  My knees went wobbly and for a couple of seconds, I couldn't think straight.

Somewhere in there, I yelped a "Goddamn it!!" and that set hubby to hustling around the trailer!!  He grabbed me and held me up, all the while asking what had happened.

When I could finally, finally get a coherent sentence out, I sure told him...between all the tears that sprang to my baby blues!

Poor hubby, he apologized and apologized.  He has felt so badly all day.  It was a true accident, poot happens.

That is the first time in nine years that anything of this sort has ever happened.  We are so careful around the rig and yet, something like this still happened.

My jaw and teeth/gums are sore.  My neck is kinked just a smidge and my shoulder is a bit sore.  Nothing big, I've had way worse happen training horses.  So, I took some Aleve and just chilled all day.

From now on, we've had a wake up call and will have to be way more careful in the future.  Things like this happen too easily!

Sounds Like IL Is Trying To Help The Trucker

http://www.truckinginfo.com/news/news-detail.asp?news_id=74416

I hope this link works. Anywho, IL is putting out a brochure showing the best routes for truckers. Because most GPS are for 4 wheelers and can get a big rigger in trouble, *ask me how I know*, unless there is some hidden bug in the brochures, this sounds purty good to me.

BTW, I have a GPS and don't use the damn thing. It's on the shelf and that's where it will stay.

Am Back...With The Flu, Of All Things

We've been so busy, what with moving and all, then coming back to work and driving our fingers to the bone!  Then, add on top of THAT, the friggin' heat and you've got a compromised immune system that finally gives up and says "Uncle".

So be it.  I guess it's the flu, have all the symptoms.  Not going to the doctor because it's a viral thing and nothing can be done.  Just don't need any secondary infections but hopefully will avoid that.

Anyway, we unloaded this AM in the *(&$#*%& heat and will reload in the morn in the *($*&%$( heat.  At least we'll be heading to WA state, where it's hopefully cooler.

Speaking of cooler, just the other day, we were in the middle of Oregon and it was 36 degrees!!  YES!  Can you believe??  It felt soooo good after all this heat from the summer.

At any rate, I don't feel so good and am going back to bed.  More stories to come in the near future...

Drove Smack Into A Tornado Today!

I have videos but I can't get them to load from my phone.  I guess I'll have to put the vids on my laptop and then post them.

At any rate, I was driving northbound on I-35 in Oklahoma and all of a sudden, it was like I was underwater, like a wave had washed over us!  I barely made it to the edge of the highway and parked.  I hoped like hell I didn't run over anyone or someone hit us, that's how bad it was!

At first we thought it was a bad rain squall but we've been in enough tornados to know what the wind does and it was was swirling.  I think I got about four vids and you can tell I am scared.  I'm not religious in the least but this time, I did call upon the name of the Lord.  I think that's human nature.

Anyway, I grabbed one dog and hubby had the other.  If our truck went over, I wanted my babies safe and sound.  All the other stuff in the truck can be replaced but our babies sure can't.  The truck rocked and rolled and I couldn't get over how a heavy rig could be pushed around as it was.  We had a load of generators on the deck, tarped.  The wind actually pulled the tarps out in the front and back!  Broke some of our bungees too!  No tears in the the tarp as far as we know, though.

The tough part was the truck behind us, I passed him to park on the side of the road, got blown over!  I looked in the rear view mirror and in a lull in the wind, I saw he was over.  Then a bull hauler and another flatbed passed us and THEY got blown over.  The bull hauler was spilling fuel all over the place.  There was another blown over truck a bit farther down the road but we couldn't find the driver.  Still don't know what happened to him.  I hoped he wasn't under his truck.  It's possible.

I was pretty rattled by this point and once the storm had passed, I drove on and up to exit 211 to the Loves.  Except just about 30 seconds before I exited, a travel trailer in front of me blew over on the off ramp!  So, hubby ran up to see if he could help.  We sat there for an hour, till the State Patrol and a tow truck could get things squared away.  The owner of the trailer wasn't hurt but his trailer is going to need some big time TLC and rehab.  A monster claim, it will be!

We pulled into the Loves' parking lot, finally, only to find it didn't have power.  A powerline was down and it will be 3-4 days before power is restored.

So, then, we thought we'd go down to the rest area, so we could use the bathroom.  You guessed it, it was closed....  So, we went a little farther and found this truck stop and I backed this baby in and then nuked some soup and am bunked in with my laptop and TV, dogs at my feet.

Today was the scariest day we've ever had related to truck driving.  I'm so glad it's OVER.

So, soonest I'll be back to my snarky self and venting away!! Stay tuned!!

Sorry, Gang, Am Moving Into New House...

This place fell into our laps and jumped on it like a hen on a junebug. So, we're scrambling like mad to empty storage and get things in the house. No rhyme or reason, just in the house. Then we have to go back out for more much needed dough and back home to fishish and fine tune.

Kinda bites that we don't have scads of money lying around so we don't have to interrupt moving, y'know??

Do You Know This Poor Dog?

We just stopped at a tiny truckstop just east of Sardinia, OH, on Hwy 32. This poor dog was walking around and you can see she's thin and malnourished. I poured out some dog food for her. After asking the sales clerk, she said the dog lives at the mobile home pictured. They just let her roam all over and, obviously, don't feed her worth crap.

The sales clerk said they feed her, plus some customers. They have told the owners numerous times about her. I said they should call the cops. I'll betcha the owners are well fed.

Gah!!

Anyway, if anyone lives nearby or knows the owners (it's worth a shot to ask), please demand that the owners get off their ass and take care of her or find her a loving home.

*I put three pics up. Let's see if they work* *fingers crossed*

Ahhhhh, Had My First Coffee This Morn

First coffee of the morn is in the top five things of my life. I like Folgers, made just 'so'. Pilot has some good coffees too. I haven't tried the Ethiopian (sp?) yet, but it's on my to-do list. I hear some Kona may be making its' way into their stops. Wouldn't that be a treat??!!

I Haven't Seen A Hooker In Long Time!!

Damn, but one just showed up at our door!! Hubby likes to read sitting in the passenger seat plus, of course he has the dome light on, and some chick showed up wanting to use the CB.

Hello. He ain't that dumb. Heh....

Then she said he needs to turn the light out. Yeah, she did. My dogs started to bark and I shushed them. All of a sudden she said 'Never mind.' and walked across to try another truck.

Ha!!

Usually, the hookers are kind of pitiful looking but she had a certain bitchiness about her. Don't feel sorry for her one bit!!

Izzat Rain On The Horizon??

Oh, God, let it pour!! It has been so freakin' hot and humid that we are feeling ill from the effects.

We went in to eat and while there, the sky clouded up and the wind started blowing!

Oh my!! The rain has just started this 10 seconds and it is pouring!! Yeah, baby!

The temp has plummeted from 92 or so to 76 degrees in the space of a few minutes! What a phenom!!

Bring it, bring it, bring it!!

Whiny Truckers....Not Attractive In The Least

Good Lord! We're at a shippers and after checking in, we were called on up. So we pulled up behind the flatbed in front of us. The guy ahead of us was blocking the corner and the mama's boy of a trucker started in about the flatbed blocking the corner.

Instead of just saying to move it and specifying which fb, he starts in about how us truckers can't read the signs and so on. Hubby wouldn't let me say anything but when the whining went on, I couldn't take it any more.

So, I got on the CB and said we weren't the ones blocking and the (whiny) driver didn't say which rig was in the way. The shipping office lady said she couldn't see who was where (oh, duh....) and said she was sorry.

Then dipshit driver said he had specified which rig. Well, neither hubby nor I heard him say. He got caufht and the female driver had to challenge him!!

I'm telling you, I am so tired of these mama's boys!! Whiny and demanding! Who wants to claim a son like that?? Could you imagine being married to a whiny-ass? Egads!!

The Heat Will Kill You!!

High heat and high humidity are a lethal combination. I can't link from here but google the signs of heat exhaustion and stroke and memorize.

Yesterday, my hubby had a bright thought that he was invincible and spent last evening/night sick as can be, short of my calling the Doctor or going to the hospital.

Scared me to death!!

So, this morn, I went into nagging wife mode and bought bottles of Gatorade and something to eat. Nothing heavy on the tummy but to give hydration and our bodies some extra energy. Normally, this early, we aren't that hungry and wait till a bit later to eat. This AM is different.

At any rate, until the dome of high pressure moves on, we truckers are going to need to be doubly diligent and watch out for each other!!

Remember, get to googling or Bing-ing the symptoms and commit them to memory!!

Geez...Another Clueless Customer...

I'm glad I make some good money doin' this job.

We showed up to pick up one unit of decking-of-some-sort, and the customer shipping guy doesn't know what we're talking about. The regular guy isn't there and did't leave any instructions or clues so we could ferret out the damn unit.

Finally, after 20 minutes of cruising their yard, hubby and shipping guy find it. Way under a pile of other stuff. Has to be dug out. So, they are digging and then will have to do more wrapping.

Did I mention it is friggin' hot and humid?? At any rate, we're gonna get the thing and will deliver it safely to its' destination.

God, I love trucking..../sarc....

Trucking Women Wearing Skimpy Clothes And Other Thoughts

This is one of those subjects that seems to have an answer plain as day, but, I'm guessing some need some helpt to see the light.

I've been reading online about the rape and violence towards female truckers.  I was a solo driver for quite a while before I met my hubby at a Swift terminal,  so I think what is forthcoming has some validity.  Feel free to correct me.

But, there is an old saying that the clothes make the man, well, the clothes (and mannerisms) can make the woman too.  If a woman is out and about in skimpy or revealing clothes, then, seems to me, she really can't make a valid claim of guys bothering her.  Of course, she can wear whatever she wants but guys are guys and hardwired to think certain things.  All guys do!!  There are certain guys who never learned to control themselves and push the boundaries of good conduct.   "No" still means "No" but if she's wearing Daisy Dukes and a skimpy tank top with nary a bra, what do you think a guy is going to think and maybe push his luck??

In my mind, female truckers would do better if they dressed like they were in a serious job and saved the skimpy clothes for other times.  In a truck, driving or being a passenger ain't it.

Personally, I don't mind a compliment or a wolf whistle (I've had a few over the years but as I age, they don't seem to come as often) and I like a guy to hold the door for me when I enter the truckstop.  But that's when it all stops.  Your demeanor and clothes say alot about you and how you come across.  Trucking is a serious business and I feel women should dress it.

The idea that we female truckers are victims of mean guys isn't cutting it.  We are NOT victims!!  We are equal to the guys!!   Because we are the fairer sex, we have to work harder and longer than the guys to gain their respect.  That means respect for yourself too.  Think before you invite some guy up close to your truck or have dinner with him.

If some guy is too pushy, and I've had it happen to me at the fuel island (of all places), you can shut him down in a New York minute.  You don't have to fall for anything or believe you have to do as he says.  Go about your business of fueling or eating and give off a 'don't bother me' attitude.  Don't give out your phone number to just anyone.  Safeguard your FB or Twitter accounts.

Okay, I'm kind of off course a bit but my point it is, wear appropriate clothing and have an attitude of 'don't mess with me'.  It'll pay off.

If you are a victime of rape, call the cops first thing and get to a hospital.  If it's violence, leave the guy immediately, if not sooner.  If you stay, I feel that you may be a bit culpable in the future, because it will happen again.

Now, get out there and stay safe!!  Use your head and THINK!!

Trying To "Do" A Twitter Thingy For This Blog

Something is wrong. I can sign up but Twitter won't accept. Maybe 'cause I'm using my phone?? Maybe you have to use a laptop or a desk top??

Wouldn't it be easier to tweet or twerp this blog automatically?

Folks, this is what happens when you're 'puter challenged in a big way. Even my adorable son gets nippy when he has to answer my goofy questions. Questions whose answers seem readily apparent to everyone else....but not li'l old me.

As usual, nothing will make me stop. I will persevere!!

Truckee Bug Station Does It Again

I had to go to feckin' CA and through Truckee, a double yuck. Now I was hauling Powder River panels and it's really obvious what I was hauling. Flatbed, you can see my load.

So I had a small stck of BOL's and handed them to the officer. Yes, I had to stop, instead of being waved through. I handed them over and the fat-ass officer (I'm sure he's henpecked) said to park and come on in.

So, I did. Onliest I walked into the officers' door instead of the drivers' door. He said to go back outside and throught the drivers' door. I couldn't hear him and snottily he repeated himself. So, I did as requested.

But, then, after I was in the drivers' side, I saw he had handed off my paperwork to another dweeb, who was copying every last page. (As an aside, what's with all the copying??) When he turned around to hand me my sheaf of papers, he dropped them!! To my horror, he picked them up, shuffled them a bit and pronounced them back in order. I didn't argue but grabbed tham as politely as I could and bee-lined to my rig.

Went throught the papers and only a couple were outta place!! Whew!! What a relief!!

I'm tellin' ya, if I never have to go to CA again, it'll be too soon!!

The Fastest Waitress In The Whole USA...

She is in Lake Point, UT at the Flying J.

Never have I had a waitress take a plate while I'm still eating off'n it, nor have I had one take my tea glass while I'm still drinking from it.

Then, she set the ticket down and said she'd take the money from there. We like to read our books while eating and sort of uh-huh'd her and went back to reading. Couldnt't have been more than 5-7 minutes later and she was back asking for the money.

Now, I'm getting annoyed and while hubby gave her the card, I slowed down on my eating. Strangely, she didn't come right back with our card and we got a little nervous but she did come back.

Anyway, she gets the invisible award for fastest, pushiest waitress!! She must be proud!

Smokey Is Driving Knight Trucks To Snare Drivers???

Believe it or not, that's what a Swift Driver happened to him and then told us about. (Unwieldy sentence, I know).

This was in Salt Lake City a couple of days ago. The Swifty was driving along on I-15 and was trying to pass a Knight. Swift needed to take an exit and sped up to pass Knight. Knight sped up and then Swift sped a bit more. Swift took the exit and promptly got nabbed but Smokey and given a ticket for improper passing, not speeding.

Anywho, the upshot was, Swift said it was a Smokey driving the big rig and he sped up to block Swift from taking the exit.

I don't know how much is true but there did seem to be quite a few 'night's on the road. I had even thought I strange to see so many. More so than usual. I don't know if Knight has a terminal in SLC, but if they do, it's plausible to see a few. Just maybe not that many, though...

Maybe Utah is needing more money and taking their cue from California??

California Port Of Entry Lady Actually Read My BOL!

Things must be getting bad for ol' CA.

Usually, when you go to Cali and throught the POE, the people there just glance at your BOL and wave you on through.  Since I'm flatbed, they don't ask what I'm carrying because, well, it's pretty self-evident.  If it's a bit square load that is tarped, that's plywood.  If it's steel and untarped, it's pretty clear what I'm hauling.

Welp, the other day, the lady came out of her little box and read my BOL, from top to bottom!!  Then, looking at my tarped, square load, wanted to know what I was hauling.   Hello??  Plywood!!

Honestly, I was so flabberghasted I couldn't really think of anything to say.  This just doesn't happen.  Well, I guess it does because it happened to me, but, really??

Was she hoping to trip me up or maybe thinking I've the wrong BOL or load and she could issue a citation or something??

Just tres weird...but, hell, it's California...

Fecking Driver!!

In case you can't see, there is a LARGE dog in a HOT big rig and no one in sight. I'm not blocking the name of his company either. Picture speaks pretty loud, huh??

Right now it's 71 degrees and hopefully the owner will show up. At least the driver could have left the engine running. Maybe we could leave him in a truck as such?? That's show him!!

Gah!

Finally, The Heat Is Down To Only 78

Sorry, have been a little lax about posting. We loaded in southern OK on Tuesday and actually got a bit sick. We'd throw a strap and then back in the truck to cool off and then back out again.

How in the hell do those guys work in that heat all day?? Are they used to it?? That has to be it. We about died or as close as you can come.

Please be careful out there. The heat is a killer. I think the high that day was 113. Very dangerous.

We drank water and Gatorade and still got a bit ill. Just too much...

It Has Cooled Off From 105!!

I'm in Oklahoma City and it's so frickin' hot!! Yesterday, Phoenix broke a 116 record with 118. I've never seen so many big rigs pulled off on the shoulder, overheating!

Even my trustworthy, go-through-fire Kenworth got a little too hot. I had to turn on the engine fan and turn off the a/c even on the flat parts of the interstate, never mind the mountains and hills. Life is pretty sucky when you need the a/c and can't use it, know what I mean??

I've seen lots of big horse trailers, chocked full of horses. Not pointing fingers but hauling in this heat could almost be abuse or the very least, neglectful. Seems to me, trip planning could be done where they travel at night when it's cooler. Maybe they have some sort of a/c going in these slant loads. I sure hope so!

So, everyone, be careful out there. The heat is dangerous!!
